Human Events reporter Kevin Posobiec was on the ground in downtown St. Paul on Sunday after anti-ICE protesters disrupted a Christian church service, shutting down worship after alleging the pastor was “pro-ICE.”
“All right, we're downtown St. Paul right now, just out front of the church where anti-ICE protesters disrupted a church service saying that the pastor was pro-ICE and therefore they needed to disrupt the Sunday church service down here,” Posobiec said while reporting from outside the church.
By the time Posobiec arrived, the protesters had dispersed and the area had largely cleared. Still, he warned that the incident reflects a broader trend. “It’s all cleared out right now, but really this is a larger pattern we're seeing here,” he said.
Posobiec pointed out that churches have increasingly become targets of political activism, even when they are not directly involved in government policy. “People continuing to disrupt churches. This is a Christian church,” he said, adding that similar incidents have occurred elsewhere. “Obviously we've seen fires being lit in historic churches nationwide and worldwide, honestly.”
“We have recent reports from Pope Leo calling for Christian unity around the world,” Posobiec said. “It just so happens this is unacceptable.”
Footage from the scene showed protesters entering the church and halting the service before leaving. The demonstration was described by Posobiec as limited in scope. “For the time being, it seems like they just conducted this little protest, I guess mostly peaceful,” he said.
Posobiec also pointed out that former CNN host Don Lemon was present at the scene. “What do you know, Don Lemon coincidentally seemed to be there too, recording this about an hour ago here,” he said.
Posobiec closed with a blunt warning. “I don't even know anymore,” he said. “But this has got to stop. This has to stop.”
