Former Minneapolis police officer Kim Potter was sentenced to two years in prison Friday for the shooting death of Daunte Wright.

As previously reported by Human Events News, a Minneapolis jury in December found Potter guilty of manslaughter. She was convicted of first-and-second degree manslaughter.

If you aren’t familiar with the story, Potter said she meant to use her taser last April on Wright instead of her gun. Officers pulled Wright over for driving with expired tags and an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror.

Evidence presented at the trial showed that officers attempted to arrest Wright upon learning he had an outstanding warrant for a weapons possession charge. Wright attempted to drive away from the officers, and Potter fired what she thought to be her taser.

Potter was sentenced below state guidelines, which range from between six to eight-and-a-half years.

Judge Regina Chu decided on the sentence after hearing from the families of both Potter and Wright, Just the News reports.
