“When in the Course of human events…”
Named for the first line of the Declaration. Reporting the American story since 1944
We took our name from the sentence that begins the American founding — and our job from it, too. Independent conservative news and opinion, edited by people, not algorithms.
Why we're still here
A free people deserve a press that answers to them and to the founding — not to the fashions of the moment.
Human Events was founded in 1944, in the middle of a world war, on a simple premise: that the events shaping the course of a free people deserve a press with judgment, a memory, and a name on every byline. Eight decades later that premise has not aged a day — and the case for it has only sharpened as feeds replaced front pages.
The title comes from the first line of the Declaration of Independence — “When in the Course of human events…” Since 1944 the masthead has changed hands and the medium has changed shape, but the charge has not: independent conservative journalism, reported and argued in good faith, answerable to the people who read it.
That is the whole of the promise. Covering conservative politics since 1944, and intending to keep at it — free of gatekeepers, and sustained by its audience.

What we stand for
Unflinching reporting
We report the American story without flinching — bylined, sourced, and answerable to readers, not to advertisers or algorithms. The fight stays sharp; the craft makes it credible.
Rooted since 1944
Eight decades of context stand behind every story. Founded in 1944, this is a publication standing in the arena rather than on a shelf — something older and sturdier than the outrage cycle.
Reader-funded independence
No paywall, and no owner to answer to but you. Human Events is free to read and reader-supported — independence you can see, funded by the people it answers to.
