British anti-immigration activist Tommy Robinson has claimed he was detained at Heathrow Airport for nearly three hours under counter-terrorism legislation.
“I'M A TERRORIST AGAIN,” Robinson posted on X.
“I have been detained at Heathrow Airport today for the best part of 3 hours. I was detained under section 3 of the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019. My phone has been seized by the police,” he said. “So here we go again, looks like more defence and court fees ffs!!!”
Robinson also included a link asking followers to contribute to his legal defense fund.
Under the 2019 act, law enforcement has the authority to detain and question people suspected of traveling to plan and carry out hostile acts. A spokesperson for Robinson also posted on X, “They likely want to see who he is talking to, and maybe find out who his sources are, sources who will expose politicians for their part in the rape of a generation of British girls.”
“This is an attack on free speech, this is an attack on investigative journalism, nothing more nothing less," the spokesperson added.
In 2024, Robinson was cleared of a terror charge after he refused to hand over access to his phone upon being stopped by officers at the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone while traveling to Spain.
Robinson, who is one of the UK’s most prominent anti-immigration activists, has been in the news as of late following the death of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak, who died in police custody. Robinson made repeated calls for protests due to the “invasion” of immigrants that the UK is currently facing.
Last Monday, Robinson posted a video of himself with Errol Musk, the father of Elon Musk, in Moscow.
“We’re going to go and cause some trouble,” Robinson said in the video. “No, no trouble. We’re going to do things right.”
