The Daily Mail reports that Jan Jahanzeb and Israr Niazal, both 17, came across on small boats.
The two have been jailed for the sexual assault that took place in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, England on May 10. According to the boys’ lawyers, footage captured by the 15-year-old victim is so shocking that it would lead to rioting if the public were to see it, leading some to call for its release.
“Release the footage. Don't let your daughters face this in silence,” The Post Millennial editor in chief Libby Emmons said in a post to X. “Where are #MeToo and #believeallwomen on this?”
“Release it,” Human Events senior editor Jack Posobiec said bluntly on X.
According to the Mail, the three-minute clip showed the girl saying “you're going to rape me”, as she was forced away from the area where she was hanging around. The video also captured the girl crying, repeatedly calling for help and begging for safety.
The girl screamed for help but was forced quiet by one of the boys. She was forced to perform oral sex on them in a secluded area before finally escaping.
The girl was found by a pedestrian who took her into a police station, where officers obtained forensic evidence.
Before sentencing on Monday, Judge Sylvia de Bertodano granted a legal challenge brought by the Daily Mail and lifted reporting restrictions that had previously prevented the identification of the two defendants because of their ages.
Jahanzeb received a prison term of 10 years and eight months.
Niazal was sentenced to nine years and 10 months, with the court applying a reduction to account for his younger age at the time of the offence.
The 15-year-old victim, who remains anonymous under UK law, attended the hearing with her mother as the sentences were handed down.
In her remarks, Judge de Bertodano told the defendants: “No child should have to suffer the ordeal (the victim) has suffered. The fact is, you two have robbed her of her childhood and nothing that the sentence of this court and nothing I can do today can restore that.”
She added: “I accept that you come from a place which has significant cultural differences from the UK, however I don’t accept that either of you does not understand the concept of consent.”
