Republicans will never learn. This has been a recurring thought on the minds of conservatives across the country since the 2025 elections last week. Nationwide, we had our eyes pried open as we watched an absolute blue bath of election dismantlings of conservatives in the states of California, Georgia, and especially New Jersey and Virginia, as well as a communist elected in New York City.
The past week identified a crucial Republican problem:
Conservatives held a mini civil war over one of their own interviewing who they view as an extremist. Meanwhile, Democrats elected extremists to powerful positions in landslide victories.
Despite the unlikelihood of a Republican sweep, last Tuesday presented prime opportunities for conservatives in traditionally blue areas.
Republican Jack Ciatarrelli had proven in 2021 that he was a formidable candidate, coming close to defeating incumbent Phil Murphy. He was thought to have a chance of getting over the finish line during this cycle against Democratic Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill.
Jason Miyares, the Republican Attorney General of Virginia, was also thought to have had a strong chance of being re-elected. Partly due to but job performance, but mainly because of the rhetoric his Democratic opponent, Jay Jones, had espoused towards Republican officeholders. Jones wished death upon not only his colleagues within the Virginia state government, but also their children. Due to this atrocity, many thought Miyares might have been the lone Republican in Virginia who could remain in statewide office.
However, the outcomes were not as expected, as Ciatarrelli and Miyares were both soundly outperformed. Democrats shockingly kept backing the man who wished death upon children.
With these crucial elections taking place, you would think that some of the most critical pundits, organizations, and even politicians of the Republican party would have all hands on deck, right?
Oh, bless your heart. You must not know the GOP.
Instead of focusing on this election cycle, our movement became entangled in an internal civil war over a podcast.
Tucker Carlson hosted a controversial activist, provocateur, and live streamer who has garnered a following primarily among young men on "The Tucker Carlson Show."
The guest is viewed as an antisemitic and is an infamous podcaster. The two spoke about Israel, anti-war foreign policy, his assassination attempt, radicalization, deplatforming, and the guest's attacks on the MAGA movement, such as against President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Carlson has interviewed many controvsersial figures such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Andrew Tate. But for conservatives, this one was a bridge too far.
Kevin Roberts, the President of the Heritage Foundation, was lambasted by conservatives from every angle when he declined to cut ties with Carlson over the podcast, which led to leadership changes at the top of the organization due to the backlash. Other members of Heritage, like Evan Myers, was cancelled for asking questions concerning obligations of his Christian faith.
While individuals like the Daily Wire's Matt Walsh, conservative broadcaster Megyn Kelly, and social media star influencer Brett Cooper rightfully refused to condemn Carlson for simply having a conversation with someone they disagreed with, most of the GOP participated in the toxic discourse in the midst of an essential election cycle—to the exclusion of the electoral contests.
Republicans went to war with each other instead of fight to make sure Jay Jones, Mikie Sherrill, and Abigail Spanberger were not elected. Now all three have attained elected office—and Carlson still has a podcast.
While Republicans from every corner came out to denounce Carlson, Democrats elected a Virginia Attorney General in Jay Jones, who wants death to all who hold conservative values, and a Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, who is a literal communist, to run the world's foremost financial metropolis.
Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec said, "We are not cancelling Tucker because Charlie would not have cancelled Tucker, and that's that. These were Charlie's wishes. The mission of Turning Point is to be coalition-builders."
Jack is right. Tucker, nor any other conservative, deserves to be cancelled for trying to have a conversation, and conservatives need to get over themselves.
A similar situation happened involving Allie Beth Stuckey, as she was discussing telling men to stop watching porn and to become more masculine to lead American culture, rightly stating, "Men, we need you. We need your masculinity and your strength and courage, and we need those things to be harnessed for good." Republicans criticized her for explaining basic common sense and conservative virtues that nearly all Republicans would agree upon. Instead, we decide to attack internally again.
Conservatives need to know who their enemies are and what issues actually deserve the vitriol that they directed towards Tucker Carlson, Allie Beth Stuckey, or Heritage.
Congratulations go out to the Republicans who would not lift a finger to help the GOP win in an election, but bent every which way but loose to condemn a podcast.
In the year 2025, we are still so far behind Democrats when it comes to pure politics. We have got to wake up, and before the 2026 midterms. Republicans across our nation need to know what time it is.
Stop worrying about group texts and podcasts with your own kind, and start prioritizing what matters most: winning.
