Former Israeli hostage Yarden Bibas: 'I know he can help. I’m here because of Trump. I’m here because of him'

"They [Hamas] used to tell me ‘It doesn’t matter. You’ll get a new wife, new kids. Better wife, better kids.”

Former hostage Yarden Bibas gave his first interview with the media since he was released by Palestinian terrorists in the most recent cease-fire deal and credited US President Donald Trump for his release. “I know he can help. I’m here because of Trump," Bibas told Leslie Stahl on 60 Minutes. "I’m here only because of him." He added, “I think he’s the only one who can stop this war again. He has to convince Netanyahu, to convince Hamas, I think he can do it."

Stahl asked Bibas if he had anything specific he wanted to tell Trump, and Bibas replied, “Please stop the war and help bring all the hostages back."

The former Israeli hostage was kidnapped on Oct 7, 2023. His wife and children were also taken alive by Palestinian civilians. Bibas was informed, on camera and while in captivity, that his wife and children were killed. Hamas lied and said they were killed in an Israeli airstrike and then filmed him visibly breaking down. When he was released, he was finally told the truth about what Palestinian terrorists had done to his 4-year-old and 1-year-old sons and wife.

He told Stahl, “They were murdered in cold blood. Bare hands. They [Hamas] used to tell me, ‘It doesn’t matter. You’ll get a new wife, new kids. Better wife, better kids,'” adding that the terrorists repeated the claim many times.

During the interview, Bibas wore a shirt with pictures of brothers David and Ariel Cunio, both hostags, and his longtime friends and neighbors from Kibbutz Nir Oz. Bibas pointed to his shirt and said, “This is David, I’ve known him since first grade, and this is his younger brother, Ariel.”

A hostage released in the first phase of the ceasefire deal told the Cunio family that David is still alive and in Gaza. Bibas said, "We did everything together. He was with me in every big thing in my life. He was in my wedding, and now, probably the hardest thing that I have to move [on] with my life, and David is not with me.” Bibas said he was worried about the Cunio brothers and desperate to get them home to their families, saying, “I lost my wife and kids. Sharon [Cunio] must not lose her husband.”

Bibas also told Stahl he was mostly held underground in the tunnels and said that when he heard and felt IDF airstrikes, “It’s scary. You don’t know when it’s gonna happen, and when it happens, you are afraid for your life. The whole earth would move, like an earthquake, but underground. So everything could collapse any moment."

60 Minutes also interviewed former American hostages Keith and Aviva Seigel, former Israel hostage Tal Shoham, and the parents of hostages Evyatar David and Guy Gilboa-Dalal who are still being held by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.
