JACQUELINE TOBOROFF: Twitch streamer who instigated Union Square riot should face consequences—but New York is becoming a lawless hellscape

Law-abiding citizens now get victimized twice: first by criminals, then by their elected officials.

Law-abiding citizens now get victimized twice: first by criminals, then by their elected officials.

There was a riot in one of Manhattan’s wealthiest zip codes, Union Square Park. Kai Cenat caused it when he told millions of his “Twitch” followers that he’d give away PlayStation 5's at Union Square Park on Friday at 4 pm. The police said he didn’t have a permit to hold the huge gathering. But Big Apple residents know that under one-party Democrat rule, breaking the law since June 2020 is a right if it measures up to the Left’s version of “social justice."

Cenat was charged with inciting a riot and unlawful assembly. Within hours, he was released from jail.

This is where we’re at in 2023: New York City will pay more than $13 million to 1,300 rioters arrested by police during the BLM “Summer of Love.” Criminals have learned it literally pays to vandalize and torch other people’s property. They understand assaulting civilians and police is not only no big deal, but that police are the enemy, making the deed an act of valor.

Law-abiding citizens now get victimized twice: first by the criminals, then by their elected officials who use taxpayers’ money to pay the criminals for the inconvenience of being deterred or detained by police.

During the Cenat nightmare, police arrested 65 people, including 30 minors. Society, at large should be concerned by the parents of these minors. Many attendees were injured, punched, and assaulted, resulting in bloodied faces requiring ambulances. The demoralized and defunded NYPD were treated like trash.

There are some important concepts to note. Intruders into the community and encouragement of criminality are hallmarks in all failing Democrat run-to-the-ground enclaves.

Cenat spent much of his youth in shelters with his mother. His father was absent. A Bronx native, Cenat presently lives in Atlanta. Nowhere near the traditionally wealthy and safe area he chose to assemble a mob of teenagers. Why is this important thematically?

First, not owning a home removes understanding of the work that goes into acquiring and keeping one. Whether with recidivists or illegal immigrants, it’s a similar pattern - in and out of the system or a country, there’s no skin in the game.

Second, Democrats use the BLM riot structure as a model to draw from when looking to transport agitators and inject them like venom into serene environments. People from different zipcodes, cities, and states were escorted into traditionally wealthy and safe areas explicitly to foment chaos and financially tank residential and commercial real estate. Cenat grifted off of BLM’s script. Perhaps not maliciously, but certainly without concern for residents and taxpayers. He issued an open cattle call, working up teenage boys, likely in desperate situations, into a frenzy for free stuff. No word on whether he was giving away one or ten or one hundred PlayStation 5's, but thousands of people came into an area they don’t call home and took pleasure in trashing it.

Cenat’s antics were premeditated. “We're gonna go crazy," he gushed when describing the plan to his followers. We must assume his mob of attendees who leveled the neighborhood don’t live in it either. A 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 600 sq ft home costs $1,275,000. And that’s not the average size apartment for sale in the neighborhood because the Union Square Park area is family centric, with myriad nursery schools, parks, trendy restaurants, and boutiques. A two or three bedroom apartment ranges from $3 to $5 million.

People who can afford this quality of life can not only afford their own PlayStation 5, but they don’t go to riots in their spare time on their own block. They don’t hijack taxis and plow through crowds. They don’t rip apart street fixtures to throw at windows for fun. And they don’t hurl cones, rocks, bottles, and other implements at police. As Mayor Adams said, "people came from outside of the city to be there," thematically on his brand.

From BLM, to illegal immigrants, to the Cenat riot, Manhattan has become a cul-de-sac, end-of-the-line, depository for criminals and criminality at the invitation of Adams.

In New York City, crimes that are punished are the sins of being a conservative, like Trump or Bannon. Then there’s the double whammy of being white and a marine, like Daniel Penny. Or, it’s the type of minority that the Democrats love to hate because they go against the narrative - they don’t view themselves as victims and cherish American values, like the garage worker arrested for attempted murder for fending off a would be car-jacker, or the athleisure and drugstore workers foolishly trying to prevent looters from looting.

Maybe they can sue Liaquat Ali, who was beaten to a pulp by four teens. What did Ali do to deserve such treatment? He went to work in a city and state that is hostile towards those that make an honest living. Standing outside his newsstand located in the very expensive and exclusive Gramercy Park neighborhood, just north of the Kai Cenat riot in Union Square Park, he wasn’t safe. Almost 15 blocks away from the nexus of the riot shows the magnitude of damage intruders wreak unto safe communities because of pro-criminal politicians and policies. Ali, coincidentally, has three forms of oppression on the Left’s pie-chart of things that matter: he’s elderly, brown, and an immigrant from Bangladesh. But because the Left’s framework is committed to destruction, anyone getting in the way and speaking up is collateral damage. Now, Ali now wants relief. “I want the government to help me. I want financial help.” Should he prevail, it is just another item on the taxpayers’ tab.

In keeping with Adams’ tactic of inviting lawbreakers, who by the way, he attributes to keeping our streets ”alive and full of joy,” he should put out a similar warning to Manhattan residents for rioters, like when he did for illegals, warning us we should house them in “private residences,” making their time more enjoyable. Then, Kai Cenat and the 65 arrested should sue us for damages.
