Mayhem on the English Channel has continued after a recent migrant boat was revealed to have had one man killed, another stabbed, and two women burned.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, one migrant died, and 72 others were rescued from a dinghy as it attempted to cross the Channel from France to the UK. The French coast guard had monitored the boat after it departed Grand-Fort-Philippe, an area used for migrant crossings.
A rescue vessel intercepted the boat and discovered one person needing CPR. The individual, identified as a 34-year-old Afghan national, was pronounced dead. Three other migrants were found with injuries. A man had reportedly been stabbed, while two women suffered burns.
“The boat continued its journey towards the United Kingdom, and its remaining 45 occupants were eventually picked up by a British rescue boat,” a spokesman for France's Maritime Prefecture said.
The passengers were among more than 500 migrants who arrived in Britain on Thursday and Friday as crossings across the English Channel continue.
The incident is the latest reported case of violence involving migrants in the area. Last month, a man in his 20s was stabbed to death on a French beach. Witnesses reportedly said the victim was attacked by other migrants, raising concerns the suspects simply fled across the Channel and into the UK after carrying out the killing.
At least 16 migrants attempting to reach the UK have died in the Channel this year. Deaths have resulted from a combination of factors, including drowning and suffocation from overcrowding.
Earlier this month, three women were found dead on the beaches along the French coast.
