“Rust” producer Anjul Nigam claimed the film will be completed despite the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Nigam made the announcement at Cannes while discussing another film he and Alec Baldwin are working on together, Fox News reports.
“‘Rust’ is obviously a horrific tragedy,” Nigam said. “The investigation will hopefully be resolved soon and will unveil what happened. Obviously, there will be people out there who will have negative perspectives, but we’re confident about continuing to make quality movies.”
The producer believes that following the conclusion of the investigation into the tragic events, the film will be completed.
“We’re confident we’ll be able to complete the movie,” he said.
As previously reported by Human Events News, in April, the New Mexico Environment Department issued a “Willful-Serious citation” fine of more than $135,000 to Rust Movie Productions, LLC, for “plain indifference to the recognized hazards associated with the use of firearms on set that resulted in a fatality, severe injury, and unsafe working conditions.”
Last October, Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on the set, leaving the film’s director of photography - Hutchins - dead and the director - Joel Souza - injured.
The shooting at Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico happened in the middle of a scene that was either being rehearsed or filmed.
