Joe Biden on Tuesday signed into law the $1.5 trillion bill that will fund the government through September and provide billions in aid to Ukraine.
In prepared remarks during the signing ceremony, Biden highlighted the $13.6 billion in Ukraine assistance as well as other domestic programs, per The Hill.
“Today we are again showing the American people that as a country we can come together,” he said. “That our democracy can deliver, can deliver and outperform autocracies.”
“With this new security funding and the drawdown authorities in this bill, we’re moving urgently to further augment the support to the brave people of Ukraine as they defend their country,” Biden said, adding that he would say more about the assistance Wednesday.
He also highlighted funding for law enforcement programs, opioid response and a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
“It sends a clear message to the American people that we are investing in safety, health and the future of Americans,” he said.
As previously reported by Human Events News, the Senate passed the legislation in a 69 to 31 vote last week, just a day after it passed the House in a 361 to 69 vote.
