In a quite shocking twist of events, Jamie Spears filed a petition Tuesday, asking the court to end Britney’s conservatorship.

As previously reported by Human Events News, Jamie Spears agreed to step down as her conservator in August, marking a huge victory for the pop sensation.

“There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing M. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate...and it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears’ best interests,” his lawyers wrote. “Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.”

The new filing marks a turning point for both Mr. Spears, who has long insisted that a conservatorship is necessary - and Britney herself.

“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter,” Mr. Spears’ lawyer, Vivian Lee Thoreen, wrote in the new filing. “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.”

Mr. Spears’ lawyer wrote that Britney had recently “demonstrated a level of independence that calls into question whether a conservatorship of the person is required,” citing news reports that she had been driving a car and had recently chosen her own counsel.

“If Ms. Spears has the capacity and capability to engage counsel on her own, she presumably has capacity and capability to handle other contractual and business matters,” Thoreen wrote.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for September 29, per the New York Times.
