U.S. to Recommend Booster Shots for Most Americans 8 Months After Vaccination

The Biden administration is recommending all Americans get a booster shot 8 months after they received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Distribution of the third shot could begin as early as September, according to administration officials, per the New York Times.

Officials are planning to announce the decision as early as this week, with a goal to let Americans who receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines know they will need additional protection against the Delta variant.

Officials expect that those who received the J&J vaccine will also require an additional dose, but are waiting on the clinical trial results.

Indeed, the first boosters are likely to go to nursing home residents, health care workers and emergency workers. The second round will likely go to other older people who were at the front of the line when vaccine distribution began last year, followed by the general population.
