The White House will withdraw its nomination for David Chipman to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms due to a lack of support from moderate Senate democrats.

Chipman, a former special agent at ATF and current gun control lobbyist, was immediately criticized upon his nomination because of his vocal anti-firearm position, Just the News reports. Moderate Senate democrats signaled to the Biden White House that they were against the choice, and it was unclear whether Chipman would have made it past a confirmation vote.

Senate republicans also opposed the nomination due to his anti-gun stance.
