A group of eleven senators on Thursday are set to introduce a bipartisan bill requesting the Biden administration delay the end of Title 42.

The bill, drafted by Sens. Kyrsten (D) Sinema and James Lankford (R), has a total of five Democrat and six Republican signatures.

The Democratic co-sponsors are Sens. Mark Kelly, of Arizona; Maggie Hassan, of New Hampshire; Joe Manchin, of West Virginia; and Jon Tester, of Montana.

The Republican co-sponsors are Senate Minority Whip John Thune, of South Dakota, and Sens. John Cornyn, of Texas; Thom Tillis of North Carolina; Shelley Moore Capito, of West Virginia; and Rob Portman of Ohio.

The senators expressed concern that ending Title 42- activated by Trump at the beginning of the pandemic to expel illegal immigrants in hopes of curbing the spread - without a plan will result in a mass surge at the southern border.

The senators plan to introduce the measure as a bill so lawmakers can see the text of what they’re proposing, Just the News reports.

However, they don’t plan to hold a standalone vote. Instead, they plan to include it as part of a larger amendment that they will attach to the Senate’s $10 billion COVID-19 funding bill.
