Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has published a letter addressed to Americans urging them to oppose President Donald Trump in the upcoming midterm elections. The 25-page letter accused Trump of misleading the American public about the war and damaging the US economy.
The letter stated, “The United States of America is a great nation. To allow vulgar and immoral individuals to continue steering your politics and policies will only further humiliate and undermine the U.S. Any politician who thinks they can buy your vote for 5,000 dollars is unworthy to lead you. Take back control.”
In the letter, the IRGC accused Trump of concealing the “peaceful nature” of Iran’s nuclear program. The group also criticized the US government’s decision to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization, claiming there was not “a single verifiable instance where the IRGC has committed an act of violence against civilians.”
“America’s national security and the lives of its service members are entrusted to someone who is not only an inveterate liar but is also an insanely avaricious man whose only motivation in life is the accumulation of greater wealth,” said IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi, per the New York Post.
The letter also accused Trump of misrepresenting the state of the US economy, saying the Iran war has driven up gas prices.
“The US economy is on the precipice of collapse, and yet he keeps on telling Americans that the economy is booming and the prices will soon start coming down,” the letter stated. It also called this Trump’s “biggest lie,” predicting that, “Soon, the dam will break, and the economy will implode, causing, unfortunately, great pain for Americans for many many years.”
Iran also challenged US claims that Iran has lost control of the Straight of Hormuz. Mohebbi said that “The fact that the Americans might manage, at great expense, considerable trouble and high risk to sneak a small vessel through the Strait of Hormuz under cover of darkness to export, say, 100 or 200 barrels of oil does not mean the Strait is open.”
Commenting on Israel, the IRGC claimed that the US has enabled the country’s “genocide” in Gaza.
“The genocide in Palestine and Lebanon and the endless wars in other parts of the world are carried out with your tax dollars,” the letter said.
The letter comes as President Trump earlier this month said that the Iranian government was attempting to sabotage the outcome of the election by prolonging the war. Iran’s effort to push propaganda on American citizens also comes as public opposition to the conflict in the US remains high.
