Mandelson, 72, was taken into custody at an address in Camden and transported to a London police station for questioning, according to the Metropolitan Police.
“Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man… He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday, Feb. 23, and has been taken to a London police station for interview,” a spokesperson said. Police also confirmed that “search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas” were executed in connection with the case.
Authorities did not publicly name the suspect, in line with UK practice. However, Mandelson has previously been identified in reporting related to the investigation, reports Time.
The criminal probe was launched earlier this month following the Jan. 30 release of additional files by the US Department of Justice tied to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Mandelson, a senior figure in the Labour Party and a former cabinet minister under Gordon Brown, was removed from his ambassadorial post in September, months after his appointment. That followed earlier disclosures indicating he had maintained contact with Epstein after Epstein’s 2008 conviction.
Emails released in the latest DOJ batch intensified scrutiny. Correspondence appeared to suggest Mandelson may have shared sensitive government information with Epstein during his tenure as Business Secretary from 2008 to 2010.
The allegations center on whether any official information was improperly disclosed while Mandelson was serving in government. Police have not detailed the specific nature of the suspected misconduct, and no charges have been announced.
