Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec presented episode 3 of the “Tales of Regime Change” special series on Wednesday, focusing on the war in Ukraine and the underreported events that led to the conflict.

Posobiec argued that the war in Ukraine is not “what the mainstream media and neocons” portray it to be, claiming instead that the conflict originated from a US-backed regime change effort that “backfired spectacularly.” He said the consequences of those actions have brought the world closer to World War III.

He detailed how the roots of the war trace back decades to the collapse of the Soviet Union, when the United States allegedly promised not to expand NATO eastward. Posobiec explained how those assurances were broken, leading to heightened tensions with Russia. The US later supported regime change efforts in Ukraine, installing a pro-Western government that pursued closer ties with NATO. He argued that those moves alarmed Russia, prompting its seizure of Crimea and eventually the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

“Now it’s a meatgrinder. Hundreds of thousands of dead, millions dead. Trillions wasted. Europe decentralized without Russian gas, and we are closer to World War III than ever,” Posobiec said. “This was bipartisan. Demcorats, Republicans prolonged the slaughter. It was not inevitable.”

Posobiec spoke with Mike Benz about the 2014 ousting of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych following the Maidan uprising. Posobiec described the event as a US-backed revolution and questioned whether it provoked Russia.

Benz claimed that after Yanukovych was removed and Arseniy Yatsenyuk was installed as prime minister, despite not being elected, Western intelligence agencies moved quickly to influence Ukraine’s security apparatus. He cited a New York Times article that reported how Ukraine’s new intelligence chief placed calls to the CIA and MI6 the morning after the government changed, leading to an agreement to rebuild Ukraine’s intelligence services as a joint partnership between the three nations.

"Not only did the Obama administration and the British government overthrow the democratically elected government of Ukraine, but then they immediately took control through the CIA and MI6 of the intelligence services in Ukraine,” Benz said. Listen to the whole series here.
