Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec called on Republicans to adopt a populist approach after socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral election on Tuesday.
Posobiec highlighted the growing influence of Gen Z voters, noting that young people’s biggest factor in voting is economic concerns, which influenced them to vote for Mamdani. He referenced the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, who had warned that Gen Z could turn away from Republicans if their economic conditions were not addressed.
“You have to improve their economic conditions,” Posobiec said. “Do it not, and they will turn to Mamdani.”
Exit polls from the New York City race showed strong support for Mamdani among younger voters, reflecting a trend in other recent elections, including the New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races. Posobiec argued that issues like the cost of living, housing, jobs, and debt are key motivators for young and middle-aged voters.
Following the string of GOP defeats on Tuesday night, Posobiec posted on X that “Republicans must embrace populism and deliver on populist victories. Legacy GOP candidates and talking points failed last night. The MAGA Model is the only way forward as Trump showed in 24. Cost of living, jobs, DEBT, housing - economic conditions for young and middle Americans.”
Posobiec also criticized the Democratic strategy of mobilizing diverse voters to elect candidates with resentment toward the country’s founders, citing Mamdani’s victory speech as an example of targeting white Americans and promoting multiculturalism.
He concluded by urging Republicans to consider eliminating the filibuster to enact policy priorities, arguing that Democrats are likely to do so first, so the GOP should act preemptively.
