DAVID KRAYDEN: Canadians' freedom is at stake in the fate of 400 ostriches

The average Canadians at Universal Ostrich Farms are emblematic of people in this country who are fed up with the government routinely taking away their rights and asking them to not only accept it but to like it as well.

An ostrich farm near Vernon, BC has become a symbol of government oppression and the manifestation of the Liberal government’s war on farmers. The government’s invasion of this farm has created a veritable Freedom Convoy 2.0.

This story has it all: globalist dictates, big pharma intimidation, cruel bureaucrats, massive government usurpation of property rights, and foundational human rights. This story has never been just about the fate of 399 ostriches facing a kill order; it’s about whether Canada is governed by its federal government or uncaring, unthinking globalist bodies.

The average Canadians at Universal Ostrich Farms are emblematic of people in this country who are fed up with the government routinely taking away their rights and asking them to not only accept it but to like it as well. The public outpouring of support is reminiscent of the Freedom Convoy – the trucker protest against Covid mandates – when people fought back against authoritarian governments and health boards that violated private property rights and tried to extinguish the flame of individual liberty.

The farm is owned by Karen Espersen and Dave Bilinsky but the face of this business and this family’s resistance to tyranny has become Espersen’s daughter, Katie Pasitney, who not only works at the site but has become the spokeswoman who conducts dozens of interviews every week with media from around the world.

The farm has attracted support from confidants of President Donald Trump and key members of his cabinet. John Catsimitidis has participated in two news conferences with the farm. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has intervened in the case on two occasions, arguing that the surviving birds have vital antibodies that saved them from avian flu and can help save human lives.

It is hoped that Trump brought up the issue when he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney this week in Washington.

Ultimately, this is a story about whether the state has the right to occupy a private farm and kill hundreds of healthy ostriches because some of them were sick almost a year ago. Those that did not contract what is believed to have been H1N1 avian flu developed herd immunity and survived. Today, they are healthy.

But the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is doing its best to change that. It and RCMP literally invaded the farm on Sept. 23 and demanded to kill the birds – not under Canadian law but under the authority of the World Health Organization and the World Organization for Animal Health. The Supreme Court of Canada allowed an interim stay of execution on Sept. 25 but that order instructed the CFIA to remain in “custody” of the birds.

That means the owners and Pasitney cannot even feed or visit with the birds. She was actually arrested for trying to do so!

The result has been chronic neglect, maltreatment and even cruelty meted out by CFIA goons who comically waited days before donning their Hazmat costumes. If these birds constitute such a public threat, why did they wait so long before putting on protective gear? And Pasitney has posted evidence on the internet of deliberate neglect.

“We call the CFIA the Canadian Animal Cruelty Agency and they need to be brought down. They need to be held accountable. Those that are here in charge need to be charged with neglect and animal cruelty, and we need a full investigation,” Pasitney told Human Events, adding that “we need to build from the ground up a new vision, a new face and an organization agency that Canadians can start to trust”

The CFIA refuses to test them for disease or allow the farmers to test for themselves. If they do, they are potentially subject to a $200,000 fine and six months in jail – for each bird tested.

It’s obvious to even a casual observer that the CFIA won’t test because they know the birds are healthy.

So why won’t Carney’s Liberal regime budge? It doesn’t have to wait for the Supreme Court to decide whether or not to hear the case. Carney and his Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald could intervene today and stop this madness. Clearly, the government is more concerned with adhering to its globalist agenda and feeding the financial demands of big pharma that has gorged itself on the profits from vaccines – especially the untested and toxic Covid vaccine that is killing millions of people around the world. Read The Pfizer Papers if you have any doubt.

Why did the Ontario government put Freedom Convoy leaders Chris Barber and Tamara Lich through over two years of lawfare in Canada’s longest ever mischief trial? The prosecution wanted to send the pair to jail for eight years and seven years respectively for organizing a peaceful protest that didn’t occupy one building, burn one structure, break one window or destroy any property.

Because Barber and Lich dared to question the Covid mandates and lockdowns and their courage inspired hundreds of thousands of Canadians to defy those measures.

The pair ended up getting house arrest for one year and a few months more curfew. But even that was too much punishment when they were just exercising their basic rights to free speech and freedom of assembly.

The gong show at the ostrich farms, with government bureaucrats threatening and terrorizing animals and humans must stop immediately. Let’s bring some commonsense back to Canada — and a little freedom as well.
