The land of the pines has sprouted yet another U.S. Senator short on spine. And while I'm proud to call North Carolina home, I can't say I feel the same way about our senior Senator, Thom Tillis.
Like many America First, Trump-supporting Republicans in NC, I watched in shock yesterday as Tillis revealed to a press gaggle that he's opposing Trump's impeccable pick for U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin.
As Tillis rambled on about why he's told the White House he won't support Martin, I couldn't decide what was worse: the fact that Tillis has bought into the fake, regime media narrative about J6 hook, line, and sinker, or that he's willing to undermine President Trump on such a crucial appointment.
Either way, it's time for North Carolinians to face an uncomfortable truth: Senator Tillis is not the steadfast fighter we deserve. His actions reveal a politician whose loyalties lie not with President Trump, the rule of law, or the American people, but with a swamp establishment that undermines the very principles he swore to uphold. From critical issues like immigration and judicial nominations, Tillis has repeatedly betrayed the trust of his constituents, and his latest maneuver proves he's more of a saboteur than a Senator. It's time to hold him accountable.
I'll have more to say about his indefensible opposition to Martin in a moment, but first let's review the parade of disappointments that is Tillis' record on immigration, another key priority for Trump. For years, he's championed policies that reward illegal immigration rather than deter it. From his support for the SUCCEED Act, which offered a pathway to citizenship for so-called "Dreamers," to his backing of the Sinema-Tillis deal—a thinly veiled amnesty plan—his actions have consistently favored those who break our laws over the citizens who abide by them.
When President Joe Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas systematically dismantled immigration enforcement, Tillis did little more than offer tepid criticism. His policies embolden the very "invasion" at our southern border that Trump is now valiantly fighting to end.
Tillis' recent rhetoric only deepens the betrayal. As Trump prepares to implement a historic mass deportation plan to restore order and security, Tillis dares to lecture us about "due process" for criminal aliens. This is not the language of a conservative warrior but of a politician pandering to the open borders left.
By prioritizing the rights of those who violate our sovereignty, Tillis gives a rhetorical middle finger to the millions of Americans who demand secure borders and swift justice. His stance undermines Trump's mandate, which is rooted in the overwhelming support of voters who want their country back.
But Tillis' disloyalty doesn't stop at immigration. His latest act of treachery, this last-minute effort to sabotage the nomination of Martin, reveals the depth of his contempt for the President and the MAGA base.
Martin, a loyal ally of Trump, represents the kind of no-nonsense prosecutor needed to restore integrity to our justice system in Washington while making it safe again. When his appointment was announced, Mike Davis, the former Chief Counsel for Nominations at the Senate Judiciary Committee and now attorney with the Article 3 Project, said Martin was the "perfect pick" and "will bring much-needed accountability and refocus the office on DC violent street crimes—making DC safe again for all Americans, particularly hard-working, law-abiding black DC residents trapped in crime-ridden DC neighborhoods."
Yet Tillis, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, is now actively working to derail this nomination, siding with the establishment over the people's will. This isn't just a political misstep; it's a knife in the back of the movement that propelled Trump to victory.
And let's not forget that Tillis voted to confirm Merrick Garland, who weaponized the DOJ under Biden, and even voted to confirm Lisa Monaco, who was part of the raid on Mar-a-Lago.
But now he won't support a true MAGA patriot like Martin because Martin rightly recognizes that what happened to J6 offenders was a grossly unjust scam? I don't buy it.
So, what's really at play? As Mike Benz told Real America's Voice, "The D.C. prosecutor's office is the top of the pyramid when it comes to the most corrupt secrets of D.C." Is Tillis worried that Martin might find something he doesn't want uncovered, particularly as he prepares to face a challenging primary next year? Given his hypocrisy here, one can't help but wonder.
If all of that wasn't bad enough, the last twist of the knife from Tillis is the worst: A doomsday clock is running on Martin's nomination. If Senate Republicans don't confirm him by May 20, there's a chance that the radical anti-Trump Judge James Boasberg might be able to fill the position. In response to this worst-case scenario, 23 state attorneys general recently sent a letter to Majority Leader Thune and Judiciary Chairman Grassley urging Martin's swift confirmation.
The rule of law demands secure borders, swift deportations, and federal prosecutors who will uphold justice without flinching. Trump is working overtime to deliver policies and personnel to achieve these noble goals for American citizens, while Tillis is working overtime to stop him.
His grandstanding blockade weakens our nation and betrays those who entrusted him with their vote. His sabotage of Trump's agenda is a direct affront to the millions who believe in making America great again. North Carolina deserves better. The state that sent Trump back to the White House with a resounding mandate cannot afford a senator who undermines that victory at every turn.
Tillis' record—amnesty advocacy, resistance to deportation, and now this shameful attack on a Trump nominee—marks him as an enemy to the cause. He's not just soft on immigration; he's an obstacle to the bold reforms our nation desperately needs.
As we look to the future, let's send a clear message: North Carolina stands with Trump, with secure borders and the rule of law.
And if our Senator won't stand with us and Trump, North Carolinians will elect someone who will.
