Trump posted to Truth Social, "Nidal Malik Hasan, a former U.S. Army Major turned traitor, is a very bad and evil man, who killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier, who died, along with her unborn son, and injured, very seriously, 32 more innocent people. Barack Hussein Obama’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and the radical Yemeni-American cleric, Anwar al-Awlaki. When reviewed by his FBI terrorism task force, investigators concluded that Hasan's emails were not a threat. This assessment of the Obama Administration’s actions was later considered to be a key intelligence failure."
"With all of that being said, I think streaming the execution for all to see might have been a strong deterrent for the World to witness how America deals with Terrorists and SCUM like Hasan but, many very good and well meaning people would rather not watch him die, through streaming, or through any other visual device. He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed. That said, the execution may be viewed in person by the immediate families of the victims, if they so choose. They deserve to witness JUSTICE! Thank you for your attention to this matter," he added.
Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth had proposed the execution—which will be done by firing squad—to be livestreamed. However, a poll came out this week that said that around 8 in 10 Americans oppose the execution being streamed live online.
The move also comes after Vice President JD Vance himself said that he would not be watching the execution take place and had cast doubt that the livestream would take place. Earlier this week he said, "I don't know that that's actually going to happen," when he was asked about the livestream and added, "I'm not going to be watching it."
The 2009 shooting saw Hasan, who was employed my the military as a psychiatrist at the time, opened fire at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center, where soldiers got medical checks. While shooting he shouted "Allahu Akbar" and began firing a handgun. He killed 13 people, including a pregnant woman that lost her baby, and injured 32 others in the process. He was ultimately subdued by base officers who shot him, which then left him paralyzed from the waist down.
He was convicted in 2013 of 13 counts of premediated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder.
