HUMAN EVENTS DAILY: NYC terror plot shows that not every immigrant comes to America to assimilate

"It's perhaps true that the people who are raising their kids in America after coming to the United States are not interested in assimilating, and that's a big problem."

Host Jack Posobiec opened Monday’s episode of Human Events Daily with new developments in the investigation into two suspects accused of carrying out a bombing attack tied to a counter-protest in New York City.

During his monologue, Posobiec said new information from authorities indicates the suspects were inspired by ISIS. The update comes after Jessica Tisch, commissioner of the New York City Police Department, publicly stated that investigators believe the defendants were motivated by the terrorist group.

Posobiec said the announcement confirmed earlier indications that the suspects had expressed support for ISIS. “Breaking news that's coming out on this pair of the Pennsylvania jihadists of Bucks County who conducted their bombing inside New York City, that NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch is now out saying that the defendants were inspired by ISIS to carry out their acts,” Posobiec said. “We had some of that before, at least from some of these comments, some of these quotes from them. We're now hearing it straight from the NYPD Commissioner herself.”

Posobiec also reported that investigators are examining travel history linked to the suspects. “New information, though, that's just coming to light, and I'm just seeing this myself breaking in real time, is that these suspects were radicalized on recent visits to the Middle East, that they were visiting Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and, quote, other known terror training grounds to receive their radicalization,” he said.

Authorities also conducted searches at two Pennsylvania homes tied to the suspects. Posobiec said law enforcement officers detained individuals at residences in Langhorne and Newtown. “Two men and a woman were taken into custody at a home in Langhorne that is worth $653,000, and 10 agents stormed a $2.25 million home in Newtown, where Kayumi lived, where one man was detained,” he said.

Later in the program, Posobiec discussed the case with Human Events editor-in-chief Libby Emmons, citing additional reporting suggesting more individuals could be connected to the investigation. “He's a longtime New York reporter, so, you know, when he says that he's got reporting, I really believe that he does, that he is being told that seven additional persons of interest are being connected, including one that actually built the bombs,” Posobiec said.

According to the information cited during the broadcast, authorities are examining whether some of those individuals had connections through a mosque attended by the suspects. “So we're looking at a potential terror cell that we've imported,” Posobiec added.

Emmons noted that similar attacks have occurred in the past and referenced previous incidents involving radicalized individuals. "there was a terror bombing of this nature in 2017, where only the bomber was injured. But that also happened in New York City. And we've seen other incidents as well," she said, with Posobiec noting the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.

Emmons continued, "Now, there are plenty of people who do come here looking for a better life and looking for, you know, something different than what they've come from. But this is not, this is clearly not one of those cases. And it's perhaps true that the people who are raising their kids in America after coming to the United States are not interested in assimilating, and that's a big problem."
