OLIVER GHORBANIFAR: Wait, did Justin Trudeau just salute a literal Nazi?

In saluting Ukrainian 'war hero' Yaroslav Hunka, Trudeau inadvertently saluted a man who served with an actual Nazi battalion during World War II.

Vlodomyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, has now successfully humiliated the entire nation of Canada.

An insightful observer, of course, may ask how this is different than any normal day in Canada. After-all, Minister Justin Trudeau has for years led a government that has—between barbaric covid lockdowns, an almost complete ban on self-defense, and a draconian regime of liberal thought policing— slowly morphed into becoming what can only be described as a progressive version of North Korea. Still, this particular degradation was egregious, even by Canadian standards.

As part of his most recent international begging tour, Zelenskyy gave an impassioned, and possibly stimulant fueled, speech to the Canadian parliament in which he accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of “deception, violence and repression” and “genocide.” Ironically enough, all things the Ukrainian government— which has now suspended elections, jailed reporters, and carried out brutal assassinations of civilians, and employed an mentally ill transexual to threaten everyone who dares to criticize them (including Human Events editor Jack Posobiec) — does on a regular and ongoing basis.

The real high point of the event, however, was when Zelenskyy introduced 98-year-old Ukrainian ‘war hero’ Yaroslav Hunka to his credulous progressive hosts, who gave him a rapturous standing ovation. This man, according to Zelensky, fought for ‘Ukrainian independence’ against evil Russians during the second World War.

The only problem?

Hunka’s battle for "independence" just so happened to involve enlisting with the actual Nazis, one of the most notorious and thoroughly evil forces in recorded history.

While the Toronto Star reported Hunka was a member of the innocuous-sounding “First Ukrainian Division,” it somehow failed to mention that the Division's other name was 1st Galcian, 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS.

The first Galacian was formed with the support of notorious Nazi Heinrich Himmler, who allowed the project to go through in large part because it was comprised of volunteers solely from the Galacia region of modern Ukraine like Hunka; a group whom Himmler viewed favorably due to Himmler’s belief that they were sufficiently ‘Aryan-like,’ unlike the Russian slavs whom the Nazi regime were then waging a war of extermination against.

The Division was used, not only for fighting on the Eastern Front, but was also repeatedly linked to a number of savage atrocities against Jews and Polish civilians.

The group’s reputation was such that Himmler himself proudly bragged of its grotesque accomplishments during a speech he gave to the detachment during the war.

“Your homeland has become so much more beautiful since you have lost – on our initiative, I must say – those residents who were so often a dirty blemish on Galicia's good name, namely the Jews,” Himmler crowed.

“I know that if I ordered you to liquidate the Poles…I would be giving you permission to do what you are eager to do anyway.” he continued.

Himmler went on to lament, however, that he was unable to give such an order as only the “savior of Europe, Adolf Hitler” was worthy of announcing such a decree.

The odious nature of the 1st Galcian was such that celebration of its iconography or morally dubious veterans was taboo in Ukraine until the U.S. State Department helped to orchestrate the overthrow of Ukrainian president Viktor Fedorovych Yanukovych in 2014, after which active celebration of explicitly Nazi iconography and ideology has soared throughout the country.

So much so that the Israeli foreign minister and a coalition of Ukrainian Jews were forced to loudly protest the continued veneration of the 1st Galacian, whom they correctly viewed as Nazi collaborators and vile war criminals.

In the wake of Ukraine’s latest failed counter offensive, which has cost the lives of tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers while gaining miniscule amounts of ground, Zelensky and his ghoulish allies in the American Deep state—like notorious warmonger and occasional meatloaf impersonator Victoria Nuland— are more desperate than ever.

This means they will go to any length, however sick or despicable, to garner support for their demented and doomed blood crusade.

If the cost of victory means glorifying actual Nazis and then making the Canadian Parliament give them a standing ovation, like Caligula demanding Roman Senators salute his horse, then so be it.

Such are the calculations of the rogue’s gallery of frauds, freaks and perverts who populate the Ukrainian leadership and American deep state. And we are all worse off for it.
