Jussie Smollett has been sent to the psychiatric ward after being sent to jail last week.

As reported by Human Events News, Smollett was sentenced to 150 days in jail and 30 months probation on Thursday for lying to police about a hate crime and politically motivated robbery he staged against himself.

In December, Smollett was found guilty on five of the six counts of felony disorderly conduct charges. He potentially faced up to three years in prison for each count.

If you aren’t familiar with the story, Smollett was accused of making a false report to Chicago police that he was the victim of a hate crime in January 2019, an attack prosecutors said he staged. He told officers he was attacked in the middle of one of the coldest nights of the year by two men wearing Trump hats with bleach and a noose. Detectives discovered the alleged attackers were two brothers who received $3,500 from Smollett, which police argued was payment to carry out the attack.

Upon leaving the courtroom on Thursday, Smollett was recorded on video shouting “I am not suicidal.”

“So Jussie is currently in the psych ward at the county jail,” Smollett’s brother, Jocqui, said in an Instagram post. “What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today and put on the front of his jail cell saying that he’s at risk of self-harm.”

“I just want to make it clear to folks that he is in no way, shape or form at risk of self harm and he wants to let folks know that,” he continued, “that he is very stable, he is very strong, he is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that ultimately has been put up against him.”

“This is not right, this is completely lack of justice, it’s angering, it’s an outrage but he also knows what he needs to do so we want to make sure that folks understand that, you know whatever, whatever insight the county jail they may…what assumptions they may be making, I don’t even know why they even have him in a psych ward, we still have not gotten clear answers there,” he continued.
