During his State of the Union address on Tuesday, Biden announced that the United States will be joining 36 other countries in closing its airspace to Russian planes amid the Ukraine invasion.

“Tonight, I'm announcing that we will join our allies in closing off American airspace to all Russian flights, further isolating Russia and adding an additional squeeze on their economy,” Biden said.

Russian flights are already prohibited in the European Union, Canada and the United Kingdom, and Russia consequently banned them in return.

Other countries include France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria and Estonia, among others.

Biden also said that he’s prepared to continue implementing sanctions and economic deterrents on Russia.

“[Putin] has no idea what’s coming,” he said.
