Human Events is pleased to have an opportunity to share original content from Keith & Kevin Hodge, aka The Hodgetwins.  The former Marine twin brothers have established a strong social media presence, and have branded themselves as seriously intelligent, but fun-loving, contributors to the American political conversation.  As we get set to enter Black History Month, here is their “statement piece” offered as an original to Human Events.

In 1968, James Earl Ray shot Martin Luther King Jr. Today, some Americans are killing everything MLK stood for.

King is an American hero. He is the face of the civil rights movement, the finest example of civil disobedience, and the impetus behind the end of legal segregation. His “Letter from Birmingham Jail” and his “I Have a Dream” speech have shaped America like few other writings in history. King fought darkness with light, and hate with love.

But today, King’s ideas are being quietly killed, and not by deranged white supremacists. His attackers cloak themselves in the name of “equity” and “social justice,” claiming to love the people MLK stood for. The assassins of his dream are none other than the “anti-racists” behind Critical Race Theory (CRT).

We are Keith and Kevin Hodge, known across the internet as the Hodgetwins. We are black conservatives who openly oppose CRT through both our YouTube channel and children’s picture book. And no, we don’t hate being black. We haven’t internalized racism. We are not slaves to the white patriarchy. We oppose CRT because we love our country. It’s the “anti-racists,” we’re convinced, who are anti-black.

Instead of standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, calling for unity and charity in the hopes of a better future as King did, “anti-racists” want to watch America crumble. They have redefined race and racism, and they have reframed the fight. They pit racial minorities against the white majority, breeding inevitable division. To the “anti-racist,” the ideas of unity and peaceful protest are only chains that the white man uses to hold everyone else in bondage. This is a hateful lie.

Proponents of CRT claim to be “woke,” awake to the rottenness in America’s core. In reality, they have closed their eyes to hope and compassion. Only those who push against the political tide can see the hate and division boiling behind the scenes.

MLK dreamed that his children would be judged by their character, not by their skin color. Thanks to his effort and the persistence of thousands of Americans like him, our children can attend school with their white neighbors. But what will they be taught? Recently, a math teacher in California had third-grade students tally up aspects of their identity that made them either oppressed or an oppressor. Our children are no longer looking at themselves, their friends, their teachers, their pastors, and seeing people. They don’t see choices and ideas and attitudes. They are being trained to see levels of oppression based solely on skin color. This is wrong and violates everything MLK stood for.

If the proponents of CRT have their way, Dr. King’s dream will die. But so far, conservatives have kept fairly quiet. It’s no wonder. We’ve been speaking up for years on our YouTube channel, and we are often called haters and racist and evil. But we refuse to be quiet.

The “anti-racists” are not backing down, and neither are we. Last year, we wrote a children’s story with BRAVE Books, called More than Spots & Stripes, to help our kids understand King’s dream. Across Black History Month, in his honor, we are giving a free copy of our book to the first ten thousand people to request it at MLK.BraveBooks.com

We refuse to be silent. We are determined to reach America with the truth. If that means donating hours of our time and $200,000 worth of books to ten thousand families, then that's what we'll do. Because America is worth it. MLK's dream cannot die.

“Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that,” Dr. King said. We will fight for a world where people are judged by their actions, not their skin color. This is not the world the hateful CRT racists want. But it’s the only world those of us who love America should ever accept.
