The House voted Tuesday night to hold former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows in criminal contempt of Congress.
The vote, 221 to 208, was mostly down party lines with only two Republicans - Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney - siding with Democrats, Just the News reports.
As previously reported by Human Events News, Meadows was threatened with contempt charges earlier this month when he stopped cooperating with the House January 6th Inquisition. In response, he filed a lawsuit against Nancy Pelosi, the Inquisition and its members.
Rep. Jim Jordan said the contempt resolution is “a vote to put a good man in prison.” “This is as wrong as it gets, and I think deep down, everyone knows it,” he said.
Chairman Bennie Thompson said Meadows’ testimony will help the committee if Trump sought to “obstruct or impede Congress’ official proceeding to count electoral votes.”
“But Mr. Meadows has refused to give any testimony at all - even regarding non-privileged topics. That puts him in contempt of Congress,” he added.
