Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley are expected to face questioning before the Senate and House of Representatives Tuesday and Wednesday over the botched Afghanistan withdrawal.
The hearings mark the first appearance by the defense leaders before Congress to discuss Afghanistan following the exit, Just the News reports.
Milley is expected to be asked about allegations in Bob Woodward and Robert Costa’s book “Peril.” These include Milley making calls to Chinese military officials unbeknownst to President Trump.
Milley, Austin and U.S. Central Command chief Gen. Frank McKenzie will appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday and before the House Armed Services Committee Wednesday.
