An explosion ripped through a crowd of Afghanis trying to enter Kabul airport Thursday, injuring at least three U.S. troops.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, a man who was on the edge of the crowd said the explosion occurred amidst thousands of people. He said he saw many injured people and was told many fatalities occurred.

One source told The Hill that the explosion was the result of a suicide bombing. Multiple other sources have reported this information as well.

The explosion came after several of America’s allies said they were halting evacuation flights from Afghanistan. Indeed, exit opportunities have become more rare amid warnings of an imminent terrorist attack by the Islamic state, as desperate Afghanis and foreign citizens still seek a way out.

Thousands of Western citizens and permanent residents are still stranded and many fear that they will be left to face possible Taliban retaliation. According to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, approximately 1,500 Americans remain in Afghanistan.
