COVID-19 Booster to be Offered to Americans Fully Vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna

The Biden administration called for a third COVID-19 shot starting in the fall for Americans vaccinated with Pfizer and Moderna.

The Wednesday announcement means that booster shots will be available for more than 155 million Americans in the upcoming months.

The shot would be given about eight months after the second dose of the vaccine, the Wall Street Journal reports. The administration is preparing to offer the boosters beginning the week of September 20.

“The current protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death could diminish in the months ahead, especially among those who are at higher risk or were vaccinated during the earlier phases of the vaccine rollout,” U.S. health authorities said. “For that reason, we conclude that a booster shot will be needed to maximize vaccine-induced protection and prolong its durability.”

Under the plan, people may receive the third dose after FDA approval. As reported previously by Human Events News, individuals 65 and older will receive the third dose first, along with healthcare workers and anyone else who was vaccinated in early stages.
