Following the murder of female police officer Ella French - and the wounding of her partner - at a traffic stop on Saturday night, at least a dozen members of the Chicago Police Department turned their backs on Mayor Lightfoot when she addressed reporters.

As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, via the Daily Wire, 30 officers refused to give Lightfoot the time of day when she approached them at the University of Chicago Medical Center, where the wounded officer was fighting for his life.

Lightfoot allegedly also tried to talk to the wounded officer’s father, who himself is a retired police officer, but he wanted nothing to do with her. He blasted the mayor and blamed her for what happened.

“The police officers’ decision to turn their backs on the mayor while waiting with the family on the 7th floor was significant. Turning their backs on the mayor was an excellent example of how the hundreds of police officers felt waiting outside the hospital,” Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara told the Sun-Times. “They have had enough and are no longer going to remain silent anymore.”

At a press conference outside the hospital, Lightfoot said: “It’s very sad. We must remind ourselves every day, our officers are fearless in the face of danger. They run to danger, to protect us. It’s a very sad and tragic day for our city.”

Ironically enough, just last year, Lightfoot encouraged cutting a whopping $80 million from the city’s police budget.
