INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An intruder was shot during a home invasion on the city’s near northwest side early Thursday morning, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said.

Initially police got a call from a woman who said a man outside her home was screaming for help saying that he had been shot. That scene was in the 900 block of West 33rd Street, near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street. When police arrived they found 39-year-old Kocho Long who had been shot in the leg. He was conscious and taken by ambulance to Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital.

As police began to investigate, they learned the shooting took place nearby at a home in the 900 block of West 34th Street. A homeowner at that location told police they confronted a man who was trying to break into their home.
