Civil War

Celebrating 15 Years of Saving Hallowed Ground (Virginia, April 28-30)

Editor’s note: A number of special events celebrating the preservation of Civil War battlefields will be held in many historic Virginia locations at the end of April. A number of historians will lead walkthroughs of famous incidents and locations.

Macculloch Exhibit Shows War on the Home Front (Morristown, New Jersey)

Editor’s note: The Historic Macculloch house, built in 1810, will celebrate the home front in the American Civil War and will feature infantry coats, rifles, drums and swords from the period.

Museums

Public invited to free day of admission at Morris County museums
(Morris County, New Jersey, May 20; 12:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Editor’s note: A number of New Jersey museums are offering free attendance in May, including one with items from WWII, a site where the Continental Army under George Washington was encamped in 1777 and 1779, and a house where Alexander Hamilton’s wife Betsy once stayed.

Air Shows

Promoter adds Lauderdale to triple crown of air shows
 (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; April 28-29)

Editor’s note: There will be all kinds of military aircraft and stunt flyers at the Ft. Lauderdale air show, including the Air Force’s Thunderbirds. The massive event will take place on the beach and will have hundreds of vendors

Editor’s note: Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich will be in St. Louis Mo.

Mob bosses, tommy guns subject of Vegas museum (Las Vegas, Nevada)

Editor’s note: Las Vegas visitors will be able to see and touch the weapons that notorious gangsters used to commit crimes in Sin City. The museum is housed in a former courthouse where a U.S. Senate hearing on organized crime was held in the 1950s.
