Bart Stupak of Michigan is insisting the report yesterday that federal funds from Obamacare will be used for abortions in Pennsylvania isn’t true.

Are you ready to believe him?  This was the same guy who backed off getting protections against taxpayer-funded abortions in Obamacare when it really mattered before the final vote. He swapped getting legislative protection for the unborn for a more flimsy executive order, despite the warnings of several groups that predited the protection wouldn't be enough and groups that, as a supposedly pro-life congressman, he should have trusted.

LifeNews.com reported yesterday that $160 million is going to a high-risk insurance program in Pennsylvania, a program authorized by Obamacare.

“It [the administration] has quietly approved a plan submitted by an appointee of pro-abortion Governor Edward Rendell under which the new program will cover any abortion that is legal in Pennsylvania,” LifeNews.com said in the article.

Stupak and HHS countered.  The Hill quoted an HHS spokesperson saying the charge is inaccurate (details on why here).

Stupak agrees, saying it’s the “latest example of some right to life groups politicizing life issues in an effort to undermine health care reform.”

But, as David Freddoso of the Washington Examiner and The Hill point out in their respective reports, the executive order doesn’t cover high-risk pools.

Bottom line: we shouldn’t even be having this discussion, because Bart Stupak should have never settled for an executive order that put protection of innocent lives in question.

House Conference Chair Rep. Mike Pence called for a repeal of Obamacare and movement of protective pro-life legislation on Obamacare after the news broke: "Congress should act quickly on critical legislation by Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA) to stop the administration from using ObamaCare to fund abortions. The best long-term solution, and the one that I remain committed to, is the total repeal of ObamaCare.”
