House Government Affairs Chairman Tom Davis (R.-Va.) last week stepped up his campaign to secure a permanent voting seat in the U.S. House for the District of Columbia (see page 9 for Rep. Candice Miller's explanation of why the bill is unconstitutional). Leading Republicans remain silent about the issue, however. When asked about Davis's proposal in an interview with the editors of Human Events last week, Republican National Chairman Ken Mehlman said it was "interesting" but that the RNC took no position on it. When HUMAN EVENTS Political Editor John Gizzi asked White House Spokesman Tony Snow if President Bush had a position on D.C. voting representation in the House, Snow said, "No."
