Contained in the Transportation-Treasury-HUD appropriations bill (H.R. 3058) for fiscal year 2006 is a bushel of pork that Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) couldn't help but point out.
Thus he has declared it this week's egregious earmark: $125,000 to the city of Treasure Island, Fla., for construction of beach walkovers.
"With Congress raiding the U.S Treasury for booty like this, we shouldn't be surprised if voters make us walk the plank in November," said Flake.
The bill passed through the House, 392-31, on November 18, and then through the Senate the same day by unanimous consent. On November 30, President Bush signed the bill into law.
