Rep. Gil Gutknecht (R.-Minn.), a gutsy conservative, told the Associated Press last week he wanted new elections for all Republican House leadership posts.

"It's really all about public trust," Gutknecht said. "The first step in rebuilding that trust is for the Republican side of the House to put more of their cards on the table, and have an honest and vigorous debate about who we are and how we rebuild public trust."

Gutknecht said he stopped short of calling for a new election for House speaker because the entire House, as opposed to just the Republicans, elects the speaker. Gutknecht told the AP he had seen nothing that called into question the ethics of House Speaker Hastert.
