He won't be returning any of the $66,000-plus Abramoff-related funds he was given, but today Minority Leader Harry Reid, opted to restrict lobbyist access to his office.
According to Congressional Quarterly, Reid's office circulated a memo that barred the acceptance of gifts, meals and travel from lobbyists. One of Reid's spokesmen, Jim Manley, said Reid is leading by example and the change is not indicative of a future push for official rule changes.
Reid's new policy comes after a week-long fundrasing tour last week of red states where he touted claims of Republican cronyism to line his own pockets, and just a day before a House Republican news conference to release their lobbying reform package scheduled for tommorrow afternoon.
