The second day of questioning got off to a rocky start this morning when Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.) opened the hearing with attacks on Samuel Alito's credibility.

Durbin repeatedly asked about Alito's view on abortion and then turned to his association to Concerned Alumni of Princeton, the group Democrats keep citing in hopes of painting Alito as a racist and sexist.

Alito, however, gave no ground to Durbin. The senator eventually changed the topic to a case on coal mining that Durbin cited in hopes of portraying Alito as a judge who doesn't give fair shake to the "little guy." Durbin clearly cited the case with thoughts of the Sago mine in everyone's thoughts.
