Samuel Alito doesn't like the terms "super stare decisis" and especially "super-duper stare decisis," he just told Senate Judiciary Chairman Alren Specter. Alito said phrases like those remind him of products in the grocery store, not legal terminology.

But to the larger question of Alito's view of the Constitution as living document, the judge told Specter he believes the Constitution sets up a framework of government and establishes rights. But the "genius" of that, Alito said, is that it's not specific and it leaves it up to each generation to apply the Constitution's general principles.
