Included in the Agriculture appropriations bill (H.R. 2744) for fiscal 2006 is $139,000 for maple research in Vermont.

“Funding pork projects like this, congressional appropriators must think taxpayers are a bunch of saps,” said Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.).

The conference report for the Agriculture appropriations bill passed the House, 318-63, on October 28. It won overwhelming approval in the Senate, 81-18, on November 3. President Bush signed the $100 billion bill into law on November 10.
