Included in the Agriculture appropriations bill (H.R. 2744) for fiscal 2006 is $100,000 for sugarcane breeding and harvesting in Houma, La. - this week’s most egregious earmark.

“They can sugarcoat it all they want, but this still tastes like pork to me,” said Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.).

The conference report for the Agriculture appropriations bill passed the House, 318-63, on October 28. It won overwhelming approval in the Senate, 81-18, on November 3. President Bush signed the $100 billion bill into law on November 10.
