Last summer, Hillary said that she would oppose a constitutional amendment banning the desecration of the United States flag. She still opposes a constitutional amendment but has cosponsored a bill by Utah Republican Sen. Bob Bennett to criminalize desecration of the Stars and Stripes.

The proposed legislation outlaws a protester’s intimidating any person by burning the flag, lighting someone else’s flag, or desecrating the flag on federal property.

In supporting this bill, Hillary fulfilled her earlier promise to “support federal legislation that would outlaw flag-desecration, much like laws that currently prohibit the burning of crosses.”
