Via e-mail last week, dozens of early members of Young Americans for Freedom from all over the country animatedly talked about recognizing the 50th anniversary of YAF in 2010 with a large celebration.

YAF, an outgrowth of the Youth for Goldwater organization that had been active at the 1960 GOP Convention, was founded in September of that year at Great Elm, the Buckley family home in Sharon, Conn.

The founding members adopted as YAF’s principles the Sharon Statement, written by former Human Events Managing Editor M. Stanton Evans, who had, that week, been named editor of the Indianapolis News.

Details of the YAF 50th, when available, will be reported here and in the pages of Human Events.
