On NBC's "Meet the Press," Rep. John Murtha (D.-Pa.) had the opportunity to explain the rationale that leads him to believe we should pull our troops out of Iraq.  His main argument is that we can’t win militarily.

He is right. We can’t win the War on Terror militarily.  It is important to point out that the terrorists can’t win militarily either.  The military can’t win the war, but we will definitely lose the war if they pull out now.

At this moment in time, our military’s job is to prevent the other side from winning.  As they are doing this, we are training Iraqis to handle this task.  Once the Iraqis are capable, it will be there job to see that the terrorists do not win in Iraq.  Everyday progress is being made toward that goal.  We will get there in spite of the fact that Rep. Murtha, Sen. Reid, Sen. Kerry, most elected Democrats, many elected Republicans and the Associated Press are hindering the efforts of the brave men and women of our military.

The global War on Terror will be won when free people from all over the world are willing and able to prevent terrorists from threatening freedom.  Fifty years from now, this planet will either be controlled by free people or it will be controlled by terrorists.  Today, some nations are free, some are not and Iraq is up for grabs.  That is why Iraq is the central front on the global War on Terror.  What happens to Iraq is going to be an important determining factor in what the world will look like fifty years from now.
