Harriet Miers was forced to withdraw her nomination to the Supreme Court because she's a girl.

At least that's what super-liberal Sen. Diane Feinstein (D.-Calif.) told the Associated Press after the announcement Thursday, blaming  “the disproportionate influence of a small right-wing constituency” for putting pressure on Miers and the White House to withdraw the nomination because she is a woman. Just listen to Feinstein go:

“I don't believe they would have attacked a man the way she was attacked. I've never seen it happen.”

"I hate to see a woman go down this way. I really, really do."

Oh cry me a river. The sad thing is some people actually buy what she says. But at the same time, Feinstein told the AP she wouldn’t give women like Janice Rogers Brown a second glance if they were nominated to the Supreme Court.

"There's no way I could ever see myself voting for Janice Rogers Brown. I know too much about her opinions on the California Supreme Court."

"Her opinions - which I've had occasion to read some of - are extraordinarily out of the box. I mean they didn't even make sense. And this was someone who (the Senate) filibustered. And to do that would really throw the gaunlet."
