Irish-born mega rock star and political activist Bono has replaced George Bush as the ??¢â???¬?????Great Uniter,??¢â???¬ or so it may have seemed at last night??¢â???¬â???¢s U2 concert in Washington, DC. At the second (in as many nights) sold-out MCI Center event, Bono repeatedly praised America for the good she is doing around the world. (More needed, of course.)
To the delight of the crowd Bono mentioned several VIP political guests-from both sides of the aisle??¢â???¬ ¦ Bono announced ??¢â???¬?????from the left, Nancy Pelosi,??¢â???¬ and ??¢â???¬?????from the right, Rick Santorum,??¢â???¬ whom he specifically thanked for his assistance with HIV/AIDS initiatives.??¢â???¬ Condi Rice was prominently heralded for championing the President??¢â???¬â???¢s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
Throughout the concert Bono??¢â???¬â???¢s music was Job #1. But clearly Job #2 was promoting his favorite organization, www.One.org ??¢â???¬?????the campaign to make poverty history.??¢â???¬
