I recently blogged about how Bush’s nomination of Miers deprived conservatives of the fun associated with getting to have a big ideological fight with the Left.
While that is true, this nomination may prove to be at least entertaining, if not an ideological clash. That’s because the upcoming nomination hearings will likely be more than just posturing and show – they will actually mean something. This is unusual; we’ve become accustomed to system in which public hearings are pointless symbolism and theatrics. Even our nominating conventions have (since 1976) been a mere formality – sort of like the Pro-Bowl.
It will be interesting to have televised hearings where the questions and answers may actually mean something. Just trying to find a sliver lining here …
