Ignoring reality has its limits, it can now be reported. The People For the American Way have (are you sitting down?) given up on blocking Roberts. Witness this excerpt from an email they blasted out yesterday:

The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on the nomination of John Roberts to the Supreme Court will begin tomorrow – and what happens there could not only determine the fate of Roberts’ nomination, but also shape the way Judiciary Committee hearings are conducted for President Bush’s next nominee.

In case you missed them throw in the towel, they do it again:

The stakes are high.  The way these hearings are conducted can influence not just the Roberts nomination, but also what happens with the next nomination to fill the second Supreme Court vacancy.

These are truly strange times.
